Description
The following, taken off their own website, is an
accurate description of this excellent venue.

Just 2 minutes from the Bull Ring, the Warehouse Cafe offers a
wide range of vegetarian and vegan snacks, main meals and desserts.
Open at lunchtimes and evenings, relax and enjoy great food with
us.

Established over 15 years ago in the Friends of the Earth
Building in Birmingham The Warehouse Cafe has a reputation as a
quality provider of vegetarian and vegan food in Birmingham.

Much of our bread, milk, dried products (such as beans and
pulses), cold and hot drinks and some vegetables are organic. Our
hot drinks and chocolate are fair trade. We buy some produce from
local producers and suppliers though this is rarely organic and use
some produce that is neither local nor organic to provide a varied
and affordable menu. Our hot water is heated by the sun courtesy of
solar panels on the roof of this building and all waste that can be
is recycled including our waste vegetable oil which is filtered and
used as fuel in a diesel car.

"I have mixed feelings about the Warehouse. This is probably going to make the place sound bad, but I'm not trying to put anyone off going there - this is just based on my subjective experience and influenced by personal bias... As a cyclist, I burn a huge amount of calories every day therefore I have a huge appetite. I feel that the portion sizes are way too small for a very hungry man. For a person with a normal appetite though I think it is probably fine. I'm also very enthusiastic about cooking. Therefore, food-wise, it takes a lot to please me. The food is good at the Warehouse, but a few of the meals I've had didn't really make me go 'wow'. Some others were great though. The service is usually excellent - I can't fault it. There was one time when I left after waiting 20 minutes for a cup of mint tea - all of the tables were full and the place was hectically busy on a summer Saturday - so I think the person who took my order just forgot about me. I think he had only just started working there too, so I don't hold it against them. Other than that, I have been very pleased with the service, it has always been quick, friendly and courteous. The place has a lovely interior - nice and light, with plants all around, and art on the walls. All in all I'd say it's a nice place with good food, but could be better in a few ways. I'd give it 7 out of 10 and I think it's probably the best place for veggies in Birmingham city centre. "

"I had lunch with my husband and three year old daughter last week (April 8th 2006). Everything is vegetarian and most things are vegan. You can have dairy or soya milk in your tea and they have soya cream and ice-cream and egg free mayo or standard. My husband had the burger and soup and I had falafel and we had some potato wedges as well. The falafel was a little overdone but aside from that everything was delicious. The meals are were served with a lovely salad, far more exciting than the usual lettuace and tomato offered in many establishments. We finished off with chocolate fudge cake and soy cream and our daughter had chocolate soya ice-cream. We can't wait to go again. Another big bonus is that One Earth Shop is next door. "

"The Warehouse Cafe has recently seen two changes of management - to my knowledge, and it used to be a fantastic veggie experience. I heard the other week (Summer 2005) that the latest management were looking to source some vegan brownies. (Pudding variety rather than small children I assume!) So drop into the Warehouse and see what there is on offer. Downstairs there is the 'One Earth Shop' (that is entirely vegan) and of course the whole building belongs to Birmingham Friends of the Earth, so visit their reception. RATING - TOP BANANA! "
